If the story interests you, I'd recommend that you watch the movie instead, it has alot more power and emotion with the superb performances the actors give. While the story is good, it didn't seem to have enough detail in spots.it just felt a little stiff. Maybe the original book (The Ultimate Gift) by Jim Stovall is different, I haven't read it so I'm not sure. The story in this book is still good.it just could have used a little more detail and emotion in spots. (This review is for The Ultimate Gift movie novelization by Rene Gutteridge).I originally thought this was going to be the book the movie was based on.later I realized that this particular book is actually a novelization of the movie. Having seen and enjoyed the movie, I decided to read it anyway.Normally I like books better than their movie counterparts, but this is one exception.
I commend it to readers who need new direction to their spiritual thinking. the book is light reading, and not nearly as dramatic as the movie version.
Stovall tells the story of a young man, Jason, who in order to receive his inheritance from his great uncle, must complete a year long journey called the "ultimate Gift". At the beginning of this book Jason is a rich spoiled kid who had never worked a day his life.
One of my favorite chapters was when Jason learns that he blossoms when he takes his attention off himself and takes care of others. Two other books I really enjoyed were How to Create a Magical Relationship: The 3 Simple Ideas that Will Instantaneously Transform Your Love Life and Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenmentby award winning authors Ariel & Shya Kane. Through each chapter we see Jason transform into the wonderful person his great uncle knew he could be.
In these troubled times I found this book a breath of fresh air. If at anytime Jason becomes a problemhis journey is over and gets nothing.
All of these books left me with a smile on my face. It was inspirational and touched my heart.
The first day of each month Jason is given a gift which is a task he must complete successfully before he can move on.
The movie was good though, and I would have purchased the movie instead of the book.~~Emily S.~12 years old~~ I am glad I received this book as I gift, because it is not worth the money. This book is not the best one ever. I liked it, but it was too predictable, and the characters were weird.
It suggests how one should live your life, but leaves the decision up to you. It is full of pathos, wonder, work ethic, and is a delightful read. This is an amazingly wonderful book. In other words, to be all you can be, or NOT. I highly recommend it. Everyone should read it, especially the younger generation. I have given a number of copies to my friends who have all enjoyed it immensely.
